Website Transfer Checklist
Track every step of switching web design companies, in the order that keeps your site and email online.
Step 1
Define the goal
You’ll have a step-by-step checklist for a safe move: logins secured, files collected, redirects planned, and old hosting kept until the new site works.
Learn the background first: Lesson 03: What happens if you change web design companies?
Step 2
Gather information
Collect only what you need for this exercise. Tick each one as you have it ready.
The Site Desk never asks for passwords, card numbers or other secrets. Keep those in a password manager.
Step 3
Follow the instructions
- 1Secure logins first
Before announcing anything, confirm you can log in to the registrar, Google Business Profile, Analytics and Search Console.
- 2Request files in writing
Use the handover template in the lesson toolbox. Ask for a full backup and your original files.
- 3Save email settings
In Google Admin Toolbox Dig, look up your domain’s MX records and save a screenshot.
- 4Plan redirects
List your current page addresses; each needs a matching new address.
