What happens if you change web design companies?
Switching designers is normal. Losing your website, email or Google rankings in the process isn’t. Here’s the order to do things in.
What you’ll learn
- What to collect before you say goodbye
- The order that keeps your site and email online
- How to protect your Google rankings during a move
- What a fair handover looks like
Why it matters
Most website disasters during a switch come from doing things in the wrong order: cancelling hosting before the new site is ready, or losing the only login to the domain.
Collect before you switch
Before you tell anyone you’re leaving, make sure you can log in to your domain registrar, your Google Business Profile, Google Analytics and Search Console yourself. These belong to your business, not to the designer.
Ask for a full backup or export of the website and any original files (logos, photos, documents) that were made for you.
